Terms & Conditions

In the current global climate a hostile environment could be anything from a country experiencing civil unrest or war to a natural disaster, and journalists, NGOs and aid workers are still expected to operate in these harsh conditions.

With this in mind it is our ethos at EBO Protect to emphasise just how vital it is for employers to consider the personal safety of their employees if they are to carry out their tasks professionally and safely.

IS IT FOR YOU?

The EBO Protect Hostile Environment and First Aid Course (HEFAC) is aimed at anyone who might be put at risk during the course of their duties in volatile areas and serves as a valuable insight into how to operate effectively and professionally in these conditions.

COURSE OPTIONS

There are several course formats available:

  • 1-Day HEFAC – Aimed at gap-year students or those travelling to potentially hostile locations.
  • 3-Day HEFAC – aimed at print, photo and broadcast students of journalism or for those that have already attended a 5-day course and want to refresh their skills.
  • 5-Day HEFAC – Aimed at professional journalists, NGO and aid agency workers and contractors.

COURSE CONTENT

The hard-hitting training will provide a wide range of life-saving skills and includes modules on personal safety, first aid including CPR and kidnap and ambush avoidance. There will also be plenty of opportunity to put this training into practice with realistic scenario-based exercises. Areas covered include:

  • Pre-deployment considerations.
  • Personal safety and security of fixed locations.
  • Situational awareness.
  • CPR
  • Trauma management.
  • Mine awareness.
  • Ambush avoidance.
  • Actions on ambush – vehicle and on foot.

INSTRUCTION

Anyone undertaking this intensive course will be put through their paces by former military personnel with associated civilian teaching qualifications and current relevant experience of working in hostile environments.

TRAINING LOCATION

EBO Protect are based on the Penhale Military Training Camp near Newquay and make full use of this 1000-acre training location during the residential course. Being based on a Military Training Camp also gives a unique insight into working with the military.

The accommodation and food at Penhale is basic but hot and hearty and is typical of the type found when working with the military the world over.
